The organizers of the Costa do Sauipe Open, a brand-new ATP Challenger 125 event, announced on Friday that 16-year-old Luis Guto Miguel from Goias has received one of the main draw wild cards. The tournament will be held from October 19–26 at the Costa do Sauipe resort in Bahia, offering $200,000 in prize money and 125 ATP Ranking points to the champion.

One of the brightest prospects in Brazilian tennis, Guto has been collecting impressive results this season. In August he earned his first professional singles point at the ITF World Tennis Tour M25 event Sao Paulo, where he also won the doubles title alongside his brother. The following week he lifted another doubles trophy. At junior level, he already boasts several international titles and was a semifinalist at the 2025 US Open Junior Championships, a result that secured him the No. 13 spot in the ITF World Junior Ranking.

Playful and charismatic, the teenager is set to bring extra energy to the atmosphere of the Bahia event, which will mark the first Challenger 125 ever staged in Brazil.

“I know Sauipe hosted an ATP 250 for many years, but at that time I was still very young and didn’t get the chance to watch it up close. The Brasil Open was a great tournament and is historically important for Brazilian tennis,” Guto said.

The young player couldn’t hide his excitement about the opportunity: “I’m very happy to play a Challenger 125 at Sauípe. It’s going to be an amazing experience. I hope to play good matches, give my best, stick to my routine and put into practice everything I’ve been training. I’m in a good moment right now, so I want to enjoy it and keep working to reach my 100 per cent.”

The unique setting of the event is also a special attraction for him: “I think it’s going to be different to play at a resort, especially with the beach nearby. It should be a special atmosphere, and I want to enjoy this experience as much as possible,” he added.
