Unseeded Kayla Day continued her solid play winning her third straight match in straight sets to advance to the Central Coast Classic brought to you by Central Coast Home Health singles semifinals on Saturday.

The semifinals and doubles finals were set as the ITF World Tennis Tour W75 $60,000 event taking place at the Templeton Tennis Ranch heads into the final weekend of play.

Santa Barbara’s Day beat Katrina Scott of Woodland Hills, 7-5, 6-2, in just under two hours. Day will meet the No. 7 seeded Olivia Gadecki as the Australian took out Viktoria Hruncakova from Slovakia, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2.

In a three-hour marathon, Kayla Cross, the No. 5 seed from Canada, survived two match points to beat SoCal’s Claire Liu, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (9). In the final-set tiebreaker, Liu led 8-7 and 9-8 but was unable to close it out.

Cross will face former Michigan All-American Emina Bektas, who won the first set against former Texas A&M star Mary Stoiana, 6-4, before Stoiana had to retire due to injury.

In the doubles final that will kick off play at 11 a.m. on Saturday, the unseeded pairing of Usue Arconada and Viktoria Hruncakova from Slovakia will take on the No. 2 seeded team of Maria Kozyreva from Russia and Martina Okalova from Slovakia.

The 26-year-old Arconada was the singles finalist at last year’s Central Coast Classic. She has won seven career ITF doubles titles. Hruncakova is 27 years old and has won five doubles titles on the WTA Tour and 25 on the ITF circuit. As a junior, Viktoria won the US Open and a few years later as a pro in 2019 she made it to the semifinals in New York City. She has also advanced to at least the third round in the three other majors.

Kozyreva is 26 years old and was born in Saint Petersburg, Russia. She played her college tennis at Saint Mary’s College in Northern California. Maria has won three WTA doubles titles and 15 and on the ITF circuit and reached a career-high of No. 70 just last month after winning the Guadalajara W125. Okalova was a four-year letterwinner at Tulsa University and was named an ITA All-American for reaching the doubles quarterfinals of the NCAA Doubles Championship in 2018-19.
