Seventeen-year-old Guto Miguel delivered the biggest win of his young professional career on Tuesday night at the Brasilia Tennis Open, an ATP Challenger 75 event played on clay with a total prize money of $107,000. Competing at his home club, the Iate Clube de Brasilia, the Brazilian wild card defeated sixth seed Juan Pablo Ficovich 7-6(1), 7-5 in front of a packed central court.

Ranked No. 3 in the ITF junior world rankings, Miguel showed remarkable composure against the experienced Argentine, currently No. 186 in the ATP Rankings. After recovering from an early break in the opening set, the teenager dominated the tiebreak 7-1 with aggressive forehands and confident serving.

In the second set, Miguel built a 4-2 lead before facing a dramatic moment at 4-3, when he saved double break point — including a surprise underarm serve that sparked controversy and briefly halted play. Ficovich fought back, but the Brazilian broke again late in the set and sealed the victory with an ace after two hours and 16 minutes.

“It’s a feeling I can’t describe,” Miguel said after embracing his coaches. “I’ve been working hard for this moment. Winning at home makes it even more special.”

Next, Miguel will face Argentina’s Facundo Díaz Acosta, champion of the Argentina Open in 2024 and a former Top 100 player. The second-round match is scheduled for Thursday.
