BRASILIA/STARNBERG, March 4, 2026
Brazil continues to rack up victories at the Brasilia Tennis Open, with five home players advancing to the round of 16 at the ATP Challenger 75 event held on the clay courts of the Iate Clube de Brasília. The tournament offers total prize money of $107,000.
Pedro Boscardin delivered one of the standout performances of the tournament so far, upsetting second seed Elmer Moller of Denmark in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. The 22-year-old Scandinavian, ranked No. 121 in the world, was overwhelmed by the 258th-ranked Brazilian, who recovered from an early 2-0 deficit in the opening set by winning six consecutive games. In the second set, Boscardin again showed resilience, overturning multiple breaks to secure one of the biggest wins of his career in terms of ranking.
“I’m super happy with how I played today,” Boscardin said. “It was a tough match like every one in this tournament. My performance was very solid and mentally I stayed strong. Beating the No. 2 seed is huge for me — one of my best wins ranking-wise. Now it’s time to keep pushing.”
Boscardin will next face Peru’s Juan Pablo Varillas, who defeated Chilean qualifier Benjamin Torrealba 6-2, 6-1.
Igor Marcondes also impressed, coming from behind to defeat qualifier Pedro Sakamoto 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-1 in an all-Brazilian clash. The victory lifts Marcondes virtually into the Top 300. He now sets up another domestic showdown against Gustavo Heide, who earlier in the week eliminated seventh seed Daniel Elahi Galan of Colombia.
“It was a very tough match,” Marcondes said. “I had chances in the first two sets but didn’t convert them. I refocused in the second set and got an important break at 4-4. In the third, confidence made the difference.”
Eduardo Ribeiro, who came through qualifying, continued his strong run by defeating Uruguay’s Franco Roncadelli 6-4, 6-3. He will now take on third seed Jaime Faria of Portugal. Ribeiro credited his mental strength for the win, especially after a rain delay interrupted play.
