The ITF W100 DISA Gran Canaria-Maspalomas continues to raise the bar as the tournament heads into its decisive stages. With vibrant action across the courts at the ITF World Tennis Tour W100 event, the quarterfinalists are now confirmed. Among them is top seed Arantxa Rus, joined by Spanish players Kaitlin Quevedo, Aliona Bolsova, Ariana Geerlings, and Lucia Cortez. Also advancing are Russia’s Ekaterina Ovcharenko, Lithuania’s Justina Mikulskyte and Germany’s Caroline Werner.

One of the Thursday’s most thrilling encounters took place on Centre Court, where Kaitlin Quevedo defeated Germany’s Gina Marie Dittmann. The Canary Island native cruised through the first set but faced strong resistance in the second. “She’s very aggressive and fast — the ball was on you before you realized,” Quevedo admitted after the match. Playing at home has been a boost for the rising star. “I love having my family here. I love Maspalomas. The humid climate really helps me, and I feel I’m heading in the right direction,” she added.

Lucia Cortez also shone with an impressive straight-sets win over Japan’s Ayano Shimizu, the No. 8 seed, with a scoreline of 6-3, 6-4. “Each day I’m adapting better to the court. I feel more comfortable with each match. This tournament is very special to me, and I really enjoy playing in Gran Canaria,” said the Valencian, who reaches her first quarterfinal in this event.

Joining Quevedo and Cortez in representing Spain in the final eight are Aliona Bolsova, who edged out Japan’s Momoko Kobori 7-6, 6-4, and Ariana Geerlings, who dispatched Germany’s Emily Seibold 6-2, 6-4.

Top seed Arantxa Rus wasted no time in her Centre Court opener, overpowering Spain’s Victoria Gómez in just 45 minutes with a double bagel, 6-0, 6-0, in a dominant performance.

Third seed Justina Mikulskyte faced a tougher test. The Lithuanian had to recover from a 0-6 first set against Italy’s Jessica Bertoldo, a qualifier who has made a strong run at the tournament.

Russia’s Ekaterina Ovcharenko prevailed in a tight all-Russian battle against Kazionova, winning 7-6, 6-3, while Germany’s Caroline Werner secured her quarterfinal berth with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Swedish qualifier Lisa Zaar.

The doubles competition has also reached its semifinal stage. Top seeds Magali Kempen and Anna Siskova will face Lia Karatancheva and Radka Zelnickova. Meanwhile, the second seeds, Madeleine Brooks and Eudice Chong, are set to meet Ekaterina Ovcharenko and Emily Webley-Smith in the other semifinal clash.
