HAGEN/STARNBERG, July 31, 2025
Botic van de Zandschulp has booked his spot in the quarterfinals of the Platzmann Open. The top seed of the ATP Challenger Tour 75 event in Hagen, Germany defeated home favourite and wild card entry Daniel Masur 6-4, 6-1 on Thursday afternoon.
The World No. 87, who is seeking his only second Challenger career title this week in North Rhine-Westphalia, struck 12 aces and won 76 per cent of his first-service points to secure victory in one hour and 22 minutes.
Up next for van de Zandschulp will be his compatriot and No. 6 seed Guy den Ouden. The 23-year-old Utrecht native battled past Christoph Negritu of Germany 7-6(5), 6-7(4), 6-3 in two hours and 36 minutes.
Also in the top half of the draw, Jerome Kym eased past Italian alternate Marco Cecchinato 6-1, 6-4. The fourth-seeded Swiss converted four of his 10 break-point chances to advance in one hour and 17 minutes.
In the final match of the day, 17-year-old Niels McDonald faced off against Sumit Nagal. The French Open junior champion started strong against the Indian, and deservedly took the opening set. Nagal fought back in the second set to level the match, but as momentum built, rain interrupted play, forcing the match to be suspended.
