Andrea Guerrieri of Italy has captured his first singles title on the Pro Circuit, winning the Slovan Open in Ljubljana. The 26-year-old left-hander from Correggio, who represents Circolo Tennis Reggio Emilia, lifted the ITF World Tennis Tour M15 trophy after battling past Romania’s Sebastian Gima in a three-set final.

This marks Guerrieri’s maiden singles crown, although he previously found doubles success in 2018 alongside fellow Italian Alessandro Motti in Greece. This time, however, the spotlight belonged entirely to “Guerro”, who justified his seeding as the tournament’s No. 3 favorite with a strong campaign, even if his path to the title was anything but straightforward.

Guerrieri started the clay-court tournament in the capital city of Slovenia with a commanding 6-2, 6-1 win over Croatia’s Nikola Basic in the opening round. He was tested in the second match by Poland’s Karol Filar, eventually coming through a tight contest 6-1, 3-6, 6-4. In the quarterfinals, the Italian raised his level, defeating Argentina’s Valentin Basel 6-4, 6-4, before benefiting from the retirement of France’s Theo Papamalamis in the semifinals after winning the first set 6-1.

In the final, Guerrieri faced a tricky opponent in Gima, a former World No. 436. The Romanian started poorly, failing to win a single game in the opening set. However, he regrouped to take the second 6-4 and force a decider. But Guerrieri remained composed and delivered a high-level performance both mentally and technically in the third set, sealing the match 6-0, 4-6, 6-3.

Thanks to this result, Guerrieri is set to improve on his current ATP ranking of World No. 576, with the top 500 now within reach, an important milestone he narrowly missed in November 2024.
