Stan Wawrinka is set to make his first appearance at the 10th edition of the Internazionali di Tennis Città di Perugia | G.I.Ma. Tennis Cup on Tuesday evening against Radu Albot. The three-time Grand Slam champion received a wild card into the main draw of the ATP Challenger 125 event organized by MEF Tennis Events.

After his first practice session on Sunday, Wawrinka was back on court Monday, hitting with former World No. 23 Dusan Lajovic. Fans turned out in large numbers to watch the Swiss veteran in action, and Wawrinka looked sharp ahead of his highly anticipated debut.

“I’m happy to be in Perugia, I love Italy and the club here is fantastic. These first two days have gone really well,” Wawrinka shared. “I want to thank MEF Tennis Events for this important wild card – of course I want to do well. Right now, I’m focused on the present, and my goal for the next few months is to get back into the top 100. How do I stay motivated? Dreams and goals are built day by day. I may have a few more limitations than I did in the past, but I love tennis – and that’s enough to give my best.”

Currently ranked No. 155 in the world, Wawrinka recently showed he’s still a contender, reaching the final of the Aix-en-Provence Challenger just last month at age 39. During his press conference, he also commented on the Roland Garros final between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz.

“It was a fantastic match, the level was incredibly high,” he said. “A final like that, between the world No. 1 and 2, is exactly what the fans want to see. For the rest of the field, it will be tough to beat those two in the years to come.”
