One of the main storylines ahead of Spain’s Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge Qualifier against Slovenia will be the debut of 20-year-old Kaitlin Quevedo, who has earned her first call-up to the national team.
The player from Gran Canaria, born in the United States, has quickly established herself as one of the country’s most promising young talents. Currently ranked world No. 133 and Spain’s fourth-highest ranked player, Quevedo continues to rise on the professional circuit. She has captured nine ITF World Tennis Tour titles, including her biggest triumph at the ITF W100 DISA Gran Canaria-Maspalomas in August last year.
This season Quevedo has already recorded notable results, including a quarterfinal run at the WTA 125 event in Oeiras, Portugal and her first WTA 250 main-draw victory in Auckland, where she reached the second round after coming through qualifying.

Spain’s captain Carla Suarez highlighted the importance of giving opportunities to the next generation. “She is a player with great potential,” Suarez said. “She is already inside the Top 150 and playing important tournaments on the tour. She brings freshness and enthusiasm to the team, and I know she was very excited about being called up. Hopefully it will be a great experience for her.”
Quevedo joins a Spanish squad led by recent WTA 500 Merida champion Cristina Bucsa, currently the country’s top-ranked player at No. 31 in the world. The team is completed by Sara Sorribes, Leyre Romero and Guiomar Maristany.
The Qualifier tie against Slovenia will take place on April 10–11 at the Tennis Center Portoroz on outdoor clay courts. Spain will be looking to secure a place in the Billie Jean King Cup Finals in Shenzhen, China, and continue its streak of appearances at the season-ending event.
