There were no doubts about his form. World No. 118 Roman Burruchaga, the fifth seed at the Quini 6 Rosario Challenger presented by the Government of the Province of Santa Fe, made a commanding start to his campaign in the tournament’s second edition. The YPF Buenos Aires Challenger champion closed Monday’s schedule with a convincing 6-1, 6-1 victory over Lautaro Midon.

After the matches that decided the six qualifiers for the singles main draw, the central court action also saw an outstanding performance from World No. 353 Juan Bautista Torres. The 23-year-old right-hander, who received a wild card from the organizers, put a shaky start behind him – dropping three early games – before winning 12 of the next 13 to seal a 6-3, 6-1 win over Alex Barrena.

Another Argentine to reach the round of 16 was World No. 328 Facundo Mena, who produced an excellent serving display – firing 10 aces and winning 92 per cent of his first-service points – to defeat Brazil’s Thiago Monteiro 7-5, 7-6(5). The list of singles winners on the day was completed by 306th-ranked Nikolas Sanchez Izquierdo, who came from a set down to beat Andrea Collarini 3-6, 6-2, 6-1, denying Argentina a clean sweep of victories.

A special moment of the day took place from 6 p.m. on Court 1, when the Santa Fe Tennis Federation organized Kid’s Day with students from tennis schools across the province. The young players enjoyed the chance to rally with Rosario Challenger stars such as Camilo Ugo Carabelli, Mariano Navone, Juan Manuel Cerúndolo, and Genaro Olivieri.
