Jaime Faria joined fellow Portuguese Frederico Silva in the singles quarterfinals of the Indoor Oeiras Open 2, an ATP Challenger 75 tournament organized by the Portuguese Tennis Federation through Sunday.
Facing young German Diego Dedura, who came through qualifying, World No. 151 Faria secured a 6-3, 7-5 victory in 90 minutes to reach his first quarterfinal of the season.
The fourth seed, who trains daily at the Federation’s High Performance Centre located at the tournament venue, made a flying start, racing to a 3-0 lead with a double break. He maintained control of the opening set despite conceding his own serve twice.
Dedura responded strongly in the second set, briefly moving ahead 4-2, but Faria’s superior firepower and serving quality — highlighted by seven aces and several unreturned serves — ultimately tilted the match in favor of the home player.

“It was another good win. I’ll admit I didn’t know him very well, but I knew he had a strong left hand and that he’s a very combative opponent,” Faria said after the match. “He’s very young and has an interesting kind of craziness that can really work in his favor — I liked his attitude a lot. I played a solid match from start to finish, without big drops between the first and second sets.”
This marks the 11th time Faria has reached the quarterfinals of an ATP Challenger Tour event – in addition to two quarterfinal appearances on the ATP Tour in 2025 – and the sixth time he has done so on home soil. It is his first such run in Portugal since reaching the semifinals of the Eupago Porto Open in the summer of 2024.
Last year, Faria also made the quarterfinals at this same Indoor Oeiras Open, a result he will now look to improve when he faces Canada’s Alexis Galarneau, a two-time semifinalist at the event in 2024.
Galarneau had to battle for 2 hours and 25 minutes to overcome Denmark’s August Holmgren, the reigning Eupago Porto Open champion, winning 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 after letting slip a 4–2 lead in the second set.
Faria followed in the footsteps of his close friend Frederico Silva, who had already secured his quarterfinal spot a day earlier. Silva will be the first Portuguese player in action on Friday, taking on Russia’s Ivan Gakhov.
