CADOLZBURG/STARNBERG, January 18, 2026

The third edition of the Cadolzburg Open came to a fitting conclusion on Sunday, with a singles final played in front of an impressive crowd at the Tennis-Center Schwadermühle. In the championship match, Dutchman Daniel De Jonge proved too strong for German qualifier Sydney Zick, securing a straight-sets victory to claim his first-ever singles title on the ITF World Tennis Tour.

Much anticipation surrounded the final, as 19-year-old Zick from Dachau had produced a sensational run from qualifying to reach his maiden singles final on the Pro Circuit. Standing in his way was De Jonge, who had impressed throughout the week with his direct, aggressive game on the carpet surface.

Zick experienced an early scare in his opening service game, letting a 40–0 lead slip with two double faults and facing a break point, which he managed to save. What followed was a stretch of confident serving from both players. At 6–5, Zick applied pressure with aggressive returns and earned two set points, but De Jonge responded calmly, firing two aces to force a tie-break. There, the Dutchman struck decisively, converting the first mini-break on the final point after a framed shot from his opponent to take the opener 7-6(5).

Carrying the momentum into the second set, De Jonge raised his return level and broke early. Although the former Pepperdine University standout wobbled briefly while serving for the match at 5-3, offering a break chance after two consecutive double faults—he regrouped and closed out the contest 7-6(5), 6-3 in 80 minutes.

The victory earned De Jonge €1,944 in prize money and 15 ATP Ranking points, which will see him climb nearly 150 places to around No. 750 in the world. Finalist Zick also leaves Cadolzburg with plenty to celebrate, as his seven points propel him almost 250 spots up the rankings, bringing him close to the world’s top 1,000.

After the match, a delighted De Jonge said: “Playing a first final always comes with nerves, especially against a home favorite. But the confidence I gained throughout the week helped me settle in well, even against such a strong server. Apart from my last service game, I felt solid. Winning my first singles title after five doubles titles is incredibly special and a perfect start to the season. My goal is to finish the year inside the top 400.”

A Strong Platform for German Prospects

Although Germany’s winning streak in Cadolzburg – following titles by Daniel Masur and Justin Engel in previous editions – came to an end, the tournament still delivered a very positive outlook from a German perspective. Zick’s remarkable run was complemented by impressive performances from young talents such as Vincent Reisach, who reached the quarterfinals and eliminated top seed Nino Ehrenschneider. Junior champion Max Schoenhaus, German prospect Marc Majdandzic, and local favorite Yannik Kelm also collected valuable ranking wins.

Positive Closing Ceremony

Following the final, tournament director Christoph Poehlmann praised the entire organizing team and the hosts at Tennis-Center Schwadermühle for delivering a highly successful third edition of the event. Local officials and representatives of the Bavarian Tennis Federation highlighted the importance of staging an international tournament of this caliber in the Fürth district, while also acknowledging the crucial role of sponsors and partners in making the Cadolzburg Open possible.
