ITF Media Release, November 18, 2025

Back-to-back Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge champions Italy have ended a second consecutive season as the No. 1 team in the Billie Jean King Cup Nations Rankings by Mastercard.

The Italians rose to No. 1 following their fifth Billie Jean King Cup title-triumph in 2024 – and have consolidated their position in top spot in the rankings by successfully defending the title this year. Italy are currently in their third spell at the top of the nations rankings, having also been ranked No. 1 from November 2009 to April 2012 and again from November 2013 to April 2014.

Italy are one of eight nations to have held the No. 1 ranking since the rankings were introduced in November 2002 – alongside Australia, Canada, Czechia, France, Russia, Slovakia and Switzerland.

This year’s runners-up, USA, end the year at No. 2 in the rankings – their joint-highest position since the rankings were introduced. Great Britain, who have reached the semi-finals in the last two years, are ranked at No. 3, with 2023 champions Canada at No. 4 and Spain completing the Top 5.

Czechia were the biggest movers following the weekend’s Billie Jean King Cup Play-offs, with their two away victories at the Group D event in Varazdin, Croatia, seeing them move up five places from No.. 11 to No. 6. Group A winners Canada and Group B winners Poland both gained two places by winning their Play-offs group events.

Three of the other four winners of Play-offs events also improved their positions in the rankings. Group E winners Australia remained at No. 12, while Group C winners Switzerland rose three places from No. 16 to No. 13. The winning teams in Groups F and G, Belgium and Slovenia, both climbed one place – to No. 17 and No. 18, respectively.

The Nations Rankings by Mastercard are published after each round of Billie Jean King Cup ties and are based on results over a four-year period, with recent performances weighted more heavily.
