Cristian Garin and Ignacio Buse will contest the final of the 24th edition of the Uruguay Open this Sunday at the Carrasco Lawn Tennis Club.

Garin, a former world No. 17, defeated fellow Chilean Tomas Barrios Vera 4–6, 6–4, 6–1 to reach the championship match. He will be aiming for the seventh ATP Challenger title of his career, and his fourth of the season, after triumphs earlier this year in Oeiras, Mauthausen, and Antofagasta.

The fifth seed said he turned the match around by “trying to adjust and look for different options because I couldn’t take control of the match at the start.”

Garin added that “this week was very important for me. I managed to play despite suffering a muscle strain. My goal was to get back inside the Top 100 and qualify for the Australian Open, and I achieved that. Now I’ll try to win the title.”

His opponent will be Peru’s Ignacio Buse, whom Garin described as “one of the best rising players in the region.” The two have never faced each other before.

Buse, born in Lima 21 years ago, defeated Argentina’s Roman Burruchaga 6–2, 7–5 in the other semifinal. He is now just one win away from entering the world’s Top 100 for the first time. Throughout the week, he has insisted on taking things one match at a time to avoid added pressure about ranking milestones or Australian Open qualification.

“I know it’s an important match because it’s the final, but I’ll give it the importance it deserves – no more than that. Everyone is thinking about rankings this week; it’s hard not to. But the best thing is to focus on each match. I know that if I win, I’ll break into the Top 100, but for now, I prefer to focus on enjoying the moment,” he said.

Doubles Trophy for Mena and Pacheco Mendez

Argentina’s Facundo Mena and Mexico’s Rodrigo Pacheco Mendez captured the doubles title at the 24th Uruguay Open, defeating top seeds Gonzalo Escobar and Miguel Reyes Varela 3–6, 6–3, 11–9.

It was their first title as a team. Mena has now collected 19 doubles titles across ATP Challengers and ITF Pro Circuit events.

For Pacheco Méndez, the victory marked the third doubles title of his career, following triumphs earlier this year at the Merida Challenger and the Antalya ITF World Tennis Tour event, both alongside Kilian Feldbausch.
