It was a memorable start for a player experiencing a breakthrough moment in her young career.
“This has been a year full of new experiences, especially on the professional circuit, and now I’ve earned my first Billie Jean King Cup win. I’m very happy with everything that’s been happening—I haven’t even fully processed it yet,” Leme da Silva said. “I was welcomed so warmly by the girls and the entire team. Today I was able to compete at a high level and put into practice what I’ve been training. Now it’s time to rest and prepare for the decisive tie against Australia tomorrow.”
Leme da Silva has been steadily building momentum. Just last week, she competed in the Billie Jean King Cup Junior event in Chile, where she won all six of her singles matches. On the Pro Circuit, she is already ranked No. 672 in the WTA Rankings, has recorded a notable win over Carol Meligeni at the SP Open, and claimed her first professional title in October at the ITF World Tennis Tour W15 event in Sao Joao da Boa Vista.
Her coach, Danilo Ferraz – who is accompanying her in Australia – praised her poise and performance in her national team debut.
“It was an incredible debut—hard to imagine a better one. Nauhany arrived in great shape, adapted quickly to the conditions and to the team environment. She showed tremendous maturity in handling the responsibility of representing Brazil at an event of this level,” Ferraz said.
“It was an excellent victory that will certainly be a major experience for her future, both as a player and as part of the Billie Jean King Cup team,” he added.
Brazil will be back on court Sunday for a decisive showdown against Australia, which will determine who advances to the next stage of the competition.
