Alejandro Moro Canas headlined Friday’s quarterfinal action at the Monastir Open. The No. 8 seed of the ATP Challenger Tour 50 hard-court event in Tunisia knocked off top-seeded Croatian Luka Mikrut 7-6(8), 6-7(3), 6-4.
Moro Canas withstood six aces and broke his rival’s serve six times to prevail after three hours and 27 minutes. The 24-year-old Spaniard will next take on Italian veteran Lorenzo Giustino, who was a 6-3, 6-4 winner in one hour and 35 minutes over No. 5 seed Dan Added of France.
In the bottom half of the draw, Czech teenager Petr Brunclik ended the run of Turkish qualifier Mart Alkaya. The 19-year-old converted four of his six break-point chances to secure a 7-5, 6-3 victory in one hour and 38 minutes. Up next for Brunclik will be Arthur Gea of France. The No. 6 seed defeated Remy Bertola from Switzerland 7-6(4), 6-1. The encounter lasted one hour and 34 minutes.
