The fifth edition of the ITF W15 Villena came to a close this Saturday after an exciting week of high-level tennis at the JC Ferrero Tennis Academy, where the atmosphere was filled with passion, hard work, and talent. The title went to Spain’s Carmen Lopez Martinez, who defeated US-American Shannon Lam — a player training at the academy — in a final that showcased emotion, quality, and great fighting spirit from both competitors.

The match started with strong balance and intensity, as Lam displayed aggressive and precise tennis. However, Lopez Martinez managed to seize the key moments to claim the opening set. In the second, the 20-year-old Spaniard took full control, showing confidence and authority to close out the match in style.

This year’s tournament once again stood out for its competitive level and outstanding performances. From the early rounds, fans witnessed closely contested matches, a strong presence of Spanish players, and a fantastic atmosphere of fair competition.

One of the most memorable moments came in the semifinals, when Shannon Lam battled through a four-hour and one-minute marathon match, coming just three minutes short of the all-time record for the longest women’s match in ITF Pro history. Despite suffering from cramps late in the encounter, the young US-American showed remarkable determination and resilience — something her team at the JC Ferrero Tennis Academy could be proud of. The accumulated fatigue, however, clearly took its toll in the final.

In the doubles event, Maria Oliver of Spain and German Elena Giessler captured the title after an excellent week of teamwork and consistency. They defeated Spaniard Celia Cerviño and Enola Chiesa of Italy 6–4, 6–3, displaying great chemistry and control to seal the victory.
