VIENNA/STARNBERG, October 22, 2025

World No. 2 Jannik Sinner began his Erste Bank Open campaign in dominant fashion on Wednesday, cruising past Germany’s Daniel Altmaier with a commanding 6-0, 6-2 victory. The two had met just recently at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Shanghai, where Sinner also won comfortably in straight sets.

In Vienna, however, the Italian star was even more ruthless. From the very first game, Sinner displayed breathtaking shot-making and gave his opponent no room to breathe. The result: a flawless first set, sealed 6-0 in just 22 minutes.

The second set brought only a slight improvement for Altmaier, who managed to hold serve for 1-0, but Sinner quickly resumed control. The 24-year-old from South Tyrol broke twice more and closed out the match after 58 minutes with a forehand winner on his second match point. The statistics reflected his dominance: Sinner won an impressive 55 of the 77 points played to record his quickest victory of 2025.

“I feel like in the first set everything was working very well,” said Sinner. “On indoor courts, you have to be very careful. If your opponent starts to serve well, it’s very difficult to break. But I’m very happy about today’s performance, starting the tournament in a very positive way, not only gamewise but feeling wise.”

Next up for the top seed of the ATP 500 event in the Austrian capital city is a Round of 16 clash with his fellow Italian Flavio Cobolli, who advanced by defeating Tomas Machac from the Czech Republic 7-6, 6-2.
