OLBIA/STARNBERG, September 25, 2025

The countdown is on for the third edition of the Olbia Challenger, set to take place at Tennis Club Terranova from 12 to 19 October. The ATP Challenger 125 event, supported for the third consecutive year by Health Partner Mater Olbia, boasts an entry list filled with exciting names.

Leading the field is World No. 72 Alejandro Tabilo, joined by promising talents such as former junior World No. 3 Nishesh Basavareddy as well as veterans Pablo Carreno Busta of Spain and Serbia’s Dusan Lajovic. Also expected back on Sardinian soil is Martin Landaluce: the former junior World No. 1 captured his first Challenger title in Olbia by defeating Mattia Bellucci in last year’s final and is ready to defend his crown. Italy’s Francesco Maestrelli has secured a spot in the main draw, with more home players to be confirmed via wild cards.

Local Authorities Welcome the Event

The City of Olbia and the Region of Sardinia once again play a crucial role in supporting the tournament. “It is with great pride that the city hosts the third edition of the Olbia Challenger,” said Mayor Settimo Nizzi. “This event has become a fixture on the international sporting calendar. It is not only an opportunity to celebrate talent and competition, but also to showcase our city as a place of meeting, culture and sporting passion. I wish all the athletes, organisers and spectators intense and exciting days.”

Elena Casu, the city’s sports councillor, added: “Sport is energy, commitment and sharing. This event embodies all of that and more. It is a showcase for top-level tennis and an opportunity to bring citizens – especially young people – closer to the values of sport. We are delighted to see Olbia at the centre of an event that unites competition and community. Good luck to everyone!”

Tennis Club Terranova Raises the Bar

Since the conclusion of last year’s tournament, Tennis Club Terranova has been working hard to improve its facilities for 2025. “We are delighted to host another Challenger event here,” said club president Giuseppe Bianco. “It is an honour and a great pleasure to welcome top professionals once again. This year we have added a fourth Greenset court, which allows us to better accommodate the players and further enhance the club’s infrastructure. We are grateful to the City of Olbia for making this upgrade possible, and we also thank the Region of Sardinia, the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation, our long-time sponsors and the new partners who have joined us for this edition. All of this shows that the Olbia Challenger is becoming part of the region’s economic and social fabric, recognised as an event of real value. I am confident that, once again, the expectations of both TV viewers and the many fans who come to the club will not be disappointed.”

As in previous years, the tournament will be broadcast free-to-air on SuperTennis.
