VILLENA/STARNBERG, September 23, 2025
From 28 September to 5 October, the JC Ferrero Tennis Academy in Villena, Spain will once again host a new edition of the Alicante Ferrero Challenger. Year after year, the event has cemented its reputation on the ATP Challenger Tour while serving as a springboard for the sport’s future stars.
“Organising this tournament is a source of great pride for us,” says former World No. 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero. “Beyond the level of play, it reflects our passion and commitment to tennis. We want every player and fan to enjoy an unforgettable experience.”
The entry list confirms that this year’s competition will offer top-class tennis. Fans will see the return of established ATP names as well as emerging talents poised to shape the next decade.
Among the headline acts is Pablo Carreno Busta, former World No. 10, Olympic medallist and Masters 1000 champion, who returns “home” to the JC Ferrero Academy where he trained as a junior. Joining him is another Spanish veteran, Monte Carlo finalist Albert Ramos-Vinolas.
Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff (ATP No. 98), a recent champion in Munich and Masters 1000 Madrid finalist against Carlos Alcaraz, will bring his trademark serving power and aggression. Chile’s Nicolas Jarry, current national No. 1 and 2024 Rome Masters finalist, will also look to make his mark with his versatile, big-hitting game.
The new generation will be represented by Madrid’s Martín Landaluce — 2022 US Open junior champion — who returns after last year’s semifinal run, aiming to boost his bid for the Next Gen Finals.
Local talents trained at the academy will also feature, including US-American Darwin Blanch, the No. 1 U18 player in his country, and Quique Carrascosa, Spain’s highest-ranked ATP player under 17. Rising Spaniard Daniel Merida, enjoying a breakthrough season with two ITF World Tennis Tour titles, will target his second Challenger crown following his maiden triumph in Pozoblanco in July.
The tournament begins on Sunday 28 September with qualifying rounds and an open day from 11:00 for all fans. Main-draw action follows:
