BAD WALTERSDORF, September 20, 2025
Britain’s Jan Choinski and Czech second seed Vit Kopriva will compete in Sunday’s singles final of the LAYJET Open in Bad Waltersdorf, Austria.
In Saturday’s first semifinal, Choinski defeated Czech qualifier Zdenek Kolar 6-4, 6-2. The 27-year-old, ranked World No. 227, won 85 percent of points on his first-service points and 70 percent on his second. He faced only one break point in the entire match and saved it.
“I’m here in Bad Waltersdorf for the third time,” said the Koblenz native. “But now that I’m training with Günter Bresnik in the Südstadt, this almost feels like a home tournament for me.”
Waiting for Choinski in the final is second seed Kopriva, ranked World No. 102, who ended the run of Spain’s No. 3 seed Roberto Carballes Baena with a 6-2, 6-3 victory. The Czech raced through the first set and stayed solid on serve in the second, breaking for 5-3 before sealing the match on his first match point with yet another deft drop shot – his fourth of the set.

Kopriva’s route to the final began with a tough first-round battle against last year’s runner-up Thiago Seyboth Wild, in which he had to win a third-set tiebreak. Since then, the 27-year-old has looked increasingly sharp and will head into Sunday’s clash as the favourite, sitting 125 ranking places above Choinski.
Pichler & Serdarusic triumph in doubles
Earlier in the day, David Pichler and Nino Serdarusic capped off a strong week at the Layjet Open by claiming the doubles title. The Austrian-Croatian duo defeated Czech pair Jiri Barnat and Filip Duda 6-3, 6-3 in the final to secure their second trophy of 2025 together, following their success in Sofia in August.
One break of serve in each set proved enough for Pichler and Serdarusic, who kept their composure from start to finish.
“We stayed very focused today and managed to hold on to the early breaks quite comfortably,” said Pichler, currently ranked World No. 110 in the ATP doubles rankings. His victory means he will crack the Top 100 in doubles for the first time next week.
It has been a standout year for the 28-year-old Austrian. With different partners, Pichler has also lifted trophies in Cassis (with Jurij Rodionov) and Stettin (with Ukrainian Denys Molchanov).
“My highest singles ranking was No. 390,” he explained. “I realized I wasn’t progressing there, so since last year I’ve been fully focused on doubles.”
Pichler and Serdarusic split €9,010 in prize money and earned 125 ATP Doubles Ranking points. They plan to keep their partnership going for at least the next stretch of tournaments. “We’ll be playing together in Lisbon, Braga and Valencia,” Pichler confirmed. “Then we’ll see what comes next.”
