LYON/STARNBERG, June 15, 2025
Marco Trungelliti of Argentina captured his first title of the season by lifting the trophy of the Open Sopra Steria in Lyon, France. The No. 8 seed of the ATP Challenger 100 clay-court event outlasted Spaniard Daniel Merida 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 in the singles final.
Trungelliti capitalized on six of his 21 break-point opportunities and won 52 per cent of the total points played to succeed in two hours and 23 minutes.
The 35-year-old South American claimed his fourth ATP Challenger Tour career crown, his first since the Rwanda Challenger in Kigali last March.

“I’m quite happy with the way I played and, above all, with the mental approach I had during the match,” said Trungelliti after his win. “I was very close to taking the second set, I had a break point at 4-2 to serve for 5-2 and suddenly, he started playing really well. At that moment, I felt a bit overwhelmed. Maybe I made one or two mistakes when serving at 5-4, but nothing major that would justify such a drop in rhythm.
“Then, in the third set, he started a little slower, just like he did at the end of the previous set, and that gave me some breathing room. I stayed calm and felt that, at some point, either I would play better on the match points or he would eventually miss, which is what happened in the end.”
Trungelliti pocketed €20,630 in prize money as well as 100 ATP Ranking points.
