Marco Trungelliti has captured the title of the Rwanda Challenger 2, the second consecutive ATP Challenger Tour tournament held at the Kicukiro Ecology Tennis Club in Kigali. The capital city of Rwanda is a vibrant and dynamic metropolis nestled amidst rolling hills in the heart of East Africa.

The 34-year-old Argentina defeated Frenchman Clement Tabur 6-4, 6-2 in Sunday’s singles final. Trungelliti, who stopped the run of last week’s Rwanda Challenger champion Kamil Majchrzak in the semi-finals, sent down seven aces and won 73 per cent of his first-service points to prevail after one hour and 40 minutes.

“I am really happy to have won today. The last time I won a Challenger was five years ago in Italy, and I had to come to Africa to win another one,” Trungelliti said afterwards.
“I wanted to thank the entire tournament organization, which was amazing during these two weeks; as well as my mom who came with me to Africa, and I am proud to have fulfilled her dream of coming to the African continent.
“Thank you to Rwanda for its hospitality and generosity. And despite what happened here 30 years ago, it is inspiring to see Rwandans people living together in peace today. Thank you and see you next year!”

The World No. 208 from Santiago del Estero claimed his third ATP Challenger Tour career title, his first since Florence 2019. Trungelliti pocketed $5,660 in prize money as well as 50 ATP Ranking points.
