Clezar Sets Semi-Final Clash With Melzer At Sarasota Open

Fans settling in for Friday evening tennis didn’t have long to enjoy it. Guilherme Clezar of Brazil took just 58 minutes to knock out Long Island’s Noah Rubin, 6-3, 6-0.

Clezar played nearly flawless tennis and now moves on to the semi-finals of the White Sands Realty/Joey Gratton Foundation $100,000 Sarasota Open.

Clezar will face third seed Gerald Melzer from Austria, who beat Quentin Halys of France, 5-7, 6-4, 6-1 in exactly two hours of play.

Also Friday, the tournament’s number six Bjorn Fratangelo of Florida needed just one hour to defeat Tomas Lipovsek Puches, 6-4, 6-1.

The other quarterfinal featured the longest match of the day with two hours and 17 minutes. Germany’s Mischa Zverev outlasted Henri Laaksonen of Switzerland, 2-6, 6-3, 7-5. Zverev will face Fratangelo on Saturday in the other semi-final.
