SARASOTA,  April 17, 2016
An exciting three-set singles semi-final came to an abrupt end Saturday after Guilherme Clezar retired in the middle of the final set with a thigh injury in the White Sands Realty/Joey Gratton Foundation $100,000 Sarasota Open.

Gerald Melzer of Austria won the abbreviated match, 6-7, 6-4, 3-2.  Rain drops began to fall around the time of Clezar’s injury but not enough to postpone the match.
Melzer will face Mischa Zverev in the finals on Sunday afternoon.  The German had little trouble disposing of Florida’s Bjorn Fratangelo in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.

The doubles final will feature four South Americans. Facundo Arguello and Nicolas Kicker, both of Argentina, punched their ticket with a 3rd set win over South Africans Dean O’Brien and Ruan Roelofse, 6-2, 4-6, 10-6.

They’ll face Marcelo Arevalo of El Salvador and Serio Galdos of Peru in the finals Sunday afternoon.
