Jan Choinski is the winner of the qualification tournament, taking place at the airport in Munich and received a wild card for the qualifying draw at this year’s BMW Open by FWU AG.

The 18-year-old top-seed from Koblenz won four matches in a modified system with short sets until four games including the “no-ad-rule”. Unfortunately, the final ended in a bitter way, as Choinski’s opponent Andrew Ruppil, a member of local club MTTC Iphitos, sprained his foot and was forced to retire in the first set.

“The match started well with a couple of good rallies. I tried to make him run as well as putting pressure on him. It was unlucky that he rolled his ankle. It’s a pity, as it seemed to become a good match,” told Choinski afterwards. “Nonetheless, I think that I deserved to get the wild card. Of course it’s not the best end for a match but I am happy.”

“I want to perform well in the qualification. I hope that I can play as many matches a possible. I want to get a taste of the ATP level. That’s always very special. So I try to prepare as good as possible and I am looking forward to playing my first match on Saturday,” the world number 599 told and added that he will stay in Munich until the start of the BMW Open.

“I played my last Future in Shrewsbury indoors but I have already practiced a lot on clay. Unfortunately the tournament here at the airport took place on a fast hard court but I am sure that I will try to adapt to the clay again the coming week,” explained the German, who already appeared at an ATP qualifying event in Stuttgart last year.

“It is always great to be with the better ranked players. It’s nice to see how the big guys practice. In Stuttgart I played a lot with Mikhail Youzhny. We hit a couple of balls every morning. This is something special. It is also great to enjoy the perfect conditions of the courts. On the Future tour, this is not always the case,” he said.

“I would like to play the qualifying of the Australian Open in 2016. For that, I will need a ranking between 250 and 260. It won’t be easy but if I play well, I could make it,” Choinski told about his goal for the season and prevailing to the main draw in Munich would probably help to meet it.
