Second seed Federico Delbonis defeated sixth seed Facundo Bagnis at Sarasota Open in the first all-Argentine ATP Challenger final outside South America since Gaston Gaudio claimed the title in San Remo in 2010.

Delbonis saved all nine break points he had to face and capitalized on three of his own to seal victory in one hour and 18 minutes winning 6-4, 6-2. The world number 88 emerged victorious for the third time in the fifth encounter between the two claiming his fifth ATP Challenger title as well as his 99th match win on the circuit.

It’s a good confidence to start Europe off with a lot of points,” said Delbonis, who earned US-$ 14.400 for the title as well as 100 ATP ranking points. “I think this is the best situation to start the year’s clay court season.”

The new Sarasota Open champion also took revenge on Bagnis for losing in the opening round in Sao Paulo in February. “In Brazil the court is different,” said Delbonis. “Also, he arrived better than me because he played three of four matches on clay before, but it was my first time. Anyway, it was a different match and we know each other very well.”
