GUIA DE ISORA/STARNBERG, February 4, 2026
Francesco Maestrelli and Stefano Travaglia have booked their places in the quarterfinals of the Tenerife Challenger 1. The two Italians, who have already enjoyed success on the island in the past, delivered solid performances to secure their spots in Friday’s matches at the Abama Tennis Academy, the venue hosting back-to-back ATP Challenger 75 tournaments organized by MEF Tennis Events.
In the first match of the day, Travaglia won the all-Italian derby against a strong Gabriele Piraino, sealing a 6-3, 6-3 victory. The result sends him into the quarterfinals, where he will face Spain’s Javier Barranco Cosano, who advanced after Michael Mmoh retired with a shoulder problem while trailing 7-6(1), 3-3.
On the Tenerife Arena, it was smooth sailing for top seed Maestrelli. The Italian dismissed Abdullah Shelbayh 6-3, 6-1 in just one hour and 14 minutes, confirming his authority and setting up a quarterfinal clash on Friday, February 6, against Britain’s George Loffhagen. There will be no all-Italian showdown, as Loffhagen, the fifth seed, defeated Jacopo Vasamì 7-5, 6-3. The 18-year-old from Rome showed a higher level than in his opening win over Blanch, but in the key moments he could not keep pace with the more experienced opponent.
Speaking after his win, Maestrelli said he is pleased to be finding his rhythm again on the Abama courts, where he has already enjoyed good results in the past. He also expressed satisfaction with his expanded support team, which has helped him take another step forward after his opening-round match against Erhard.
