Alexander Zverev will not participate in the 53rd ABN AMRO Open. The 28-year-old German withdrew today due to recurring ankle problems, following his physio’s advice to take time for a thorough recovery before returning to competitive play.

Zverev commented: “I find it incredibly unfortunate that I have to make this decision. At the ABN AMRO Open, I was already given a chance as a young player, and that’s why I always enjoy returning. However, given my history with my ankle, I have to prioritize my recovery and can’t take any risks. I wish everyone in Rotterdam a wonderful week.”

Tournament director Richard Krajicek added: “Given his history, we would naturally have liked to see Alexander back on court, but we also understand his decision here. Everyone still remembers the images and the impact of his previous ankle injury.”

With Zverev’s withdrawal, Alex de Minaur becomes the top seed at the ABN AMRO Open. The 26-year-old, ranked number six in the world, has reached the Rotterdam final in the past two years. He will face strong competition from players including Felix Auger-Aliassime, Alexander Bublik, Daniil Medvedev, and Jack Draper.

Jesper de Jong, who was the first alternate on the entry list, now gains direct entry based on his ranking. The wildcard previously awarded to De Jong has been reassigned to Botic van de Zandschulp.
