CADOLZBURG/STARNBERG, January 16, 2026

Friday’s play at the third edition of the Cadolzburg Open, an ITF World Tennis Tour M15 event, featured the quarterfinals in singles and the semifinals in doubles. The standout performance of the day came from local favorite Sydney Zick, who thrilled the crowd with a commanding straight-sets victory over Sweden’s Nikola Slavic to reach his first-ever semifinal on the ITF Pro Circuit.

The 19-year-old from Dachau continued his impressive run at the Tennis Center Schwadermühle, where he had already battled through qualifying and two main-draw rounds. Against Slavic, Zick burst out of the gates, racing to a 3–0 lead. Although the 25-year-old Swede found his rhythm as the set progressed, he was unable to stop the Bavarian teenager, who frequently pressed forward and closed out the opener with authority.

Zick maintained control in the second set, once again securing an early break and dictating play with his variety. After 91 minutes, he sealed the 6–3, 6–4 win with a service winner, booking his place in the semifinals of an ITF World Tennis Tour event for the first time in his career.

“Today I played very solidly and had everything under control from the start,” Zick said afterwards. “I don’t focus too much on my opponent beforehand, but on my own preparation. If I play my game and perform like this, I can be dangerous for anyone on this surface.”

Poulsen edges Schoenhaus in tight three-set battle

Max Schoenhaus faced a tough challenge against Danish Davis Cup player Oskar Poulsen on the fast carpet courts. The 18-year-old German held his own with strong serving in the opening set, but Poulsen converted the only break opportunity at 4–4 and served out the set.

The second set was equally close, with Schoenhaus finally capitalizing late to force a decider. In the third, however, Poulsen regained the momentum, breaking in the middle of the set and closing out a 6–4, 5–7, 6–4 victory with his 17th ace after one hour and 50 minutes—despite Schoenhaus winning one point more overall. Poulsen will face Dutchman Daniel de Jonge in the semifinals.

Filar halts Reisach’s run

Following his surprise win over top seed Nino Ehrenschneider, 16-year-old Vincent Reisach was unable to repeat the feat against Poland’s Karol Filar. The experienced 27-year-old controlled the rallies from the outset, using his consistency and placement to keep the Bavarian youngster at bay. Filar claimed a 6–3, 6–4 win in 74 minutes and will meet Sydney Zick in the semifinals.
