LONDON, November 13, 2025 (ITIA Press Release)
The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) today confirms that two 21-year-old Chinese tennis players have been sanctioned for breaches of the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program (TACP), while a third has been placed under provisional suspension.
After having admitted in interview to fixing matches in exchange for payment in 2024, both Li Wenfu and Zhang Jin failed to respond to ITIA charges, or exercise their appeal rights, and so sanctions have entered into effect.
Li, who reached a career-high world singles ranking of 1572 in July 2024, has been suspended for two years and three months and fined $20,000, of which $15,000 is suspended.
Zhang, who reached a career-high world singles ranking of 1285 in July 2024, has been suspended for two years and fined $15,000, of which $10,000 is suspended.
Both players were provisionally suspended on 31 July 2025, and time served under provisional suspension will be credited against the players’ sanctions. As such, Li’s period of ineligibility ends on 30 October 2027, and Zhang’s on 30 July 2027.
In addition, Lu Pengyu, a 23-year-old tennis player from China, has been provisionally suspended, pending the full consideration of charges under the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program (TACP).
Lu, who reached a career-high world singles ranking of 896 in June 2025, has been provisionally suspended under sections F.3.b.i.4 and F.3.b.i.1 of the TACP, which read:
F.3.b.i.4: ‘There is a likelihood that the Covered Person has committed a Major Offense and in the absence of a Provisional Suspension, the integrity of tennis would be undermined and the harm resulting from the absence of a Provisional Suspension outweighs the Hardship of the Provisional Suspension on the Covered Person.’
F.3.b.i.1: ‘The Covered Person has failed to comply with a Demand.’
Lu has been provisionally suspended since 19 August 2025, and exercised their right to appeal on 3 October 2025. On 29 October 2025, a remote appeal hearing was held before independent Anti-Corruption Hearing Officer (AHO) Raj Parker. On 10 November 2025, AHO Parker dismissed Lu’s appeal.
During their periods of ineligibility, Li, Zhang and Lu are prohibited from playing in, coaching at, or attending any tennis event authorised or sanctioned by the members of the ITIA (ATP, ITF, WTA, Tennis Australia, Fédération Française de Tennis, Wimbledon and USTA) or any national association.
