Pablo Llamas Ruiz headlined Friday’s quarterfinals action at the Invest In Szczecin Open by knocking out defending champion and top seed Vit Kopriva of the Czech Republic. The 22-year-old Spaniard capitalized on six of his 13 break-point chances to secure victory in two hours and 30 minutes.
Up next for Llamas Ruiz will be Facundo Diaz Acosta, who also had to go the distance in his match against German qualifier Henri Squire. The World No. 314 from Argentina sent down four aces and won 73 per cent of his first-service points to prevail after three hours and 14 minutes.
In other action, No. 2 seed Thiago Agustin Tirante of Argentina beat Vitaliy Sachko from Ukraine 6-2, 7-6(3) in one hour and 37 minutes and Frenchman Geoffrey Blancaneaux edged out fifth-seeded Italian Andrea Pellegrino 6-4, 6-2. The encounter lasted one hour and 25 minutes.
