Billie Jean King Cup Commissions Renowned Chinese Designer Ms Yang Wang As Official 2025 Finals Artwork Creator

Billie Jean King Cup Finals Shenzhen

ITF Press Release, August 30, 2025

The Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge announced Ms Yang Wang, an acclaimed Chinese designer, as the official artist behind the tournament’s artwork for the 2025 Finals, which will take place in Shenzhen on 16-21 September.

Ms Yang Wang is the Founder and Design Director of Kieferzapfen Design, Founder and Chief Designer of YAANG Life, and Co-founder of the multi-media sensory culture space Liangshe. Her accolades include the Grand Prix Design Paris 2022 and recognition as one of the Top 10 Outstanding Young Designers in Shanghai. She was also named to the Hong Kong 40 Under 40 Greater China Designer Excellence Award and the AD100 list of influential architecture and design elites in the United States.

Celebrated cross-disciplinary designer, Ms Yang Wang brings a unique fusion of Eastern tradition and Western modernity to the competition’s key visual. Inspired by both the spirit of tennis and the milestone of China hosting the Finals for the next three years, her design places four tennis players at the heart of the artwork, each of different ethnicities, poses, and outfits, representing teamwork, multicultural inclusivity, and the global reach of sport.

The backdrop reimagines traditional Chinese architectural elements, including layered eaves and dougong through clean geometric lines, blending cultural heritage with contemporary energy and the modern Shenzhen skyline. Beneath the athletes, an abstract court shaded in gradients of clay, grass, and hard surfaces symbolizes the diversity of tennis and the determination of women to push boundaries. Bold hues of blue, gold, and red radiate strength and passion, reinforcing the theme of “giving voice to women.”

Ms Yang Wang said: “It’s an honour to contribute to an event that celebrates not only athletic excellence, but also the values of equality and empowerment on a global stage. When discussing this project, I was deeply moved by the principles Billie Jean King has championed for decades. As a Chinese female artist, her advocacy for gender equality and her belief that sport can change women’s destinies resonated strongly with me.”

“I wanted the design to reflect the diversity of the players and the spirit of teamwork in the tournament, set against a backdrop of Chinese architectural elements. This collaboration challenged me to explore a new field, and through it, I learned more about tennis, its culture, and the empowering message it carries. It’s a tribute to Billie Jean King’s legacy and a celebration of the future that we are building together,” she continued.

Kerstin Lutz, CEO, Billie Jean King Cup Limited, added: “Ms Wang’s artwork captures the essence of what the Billie Jean King Cup stands for: unity, progress, and the power of women’s voices. Her ability to blend tradition and innovation makes her the perfect artist to represent this historic moment as we bring the Finals to China for the very first time. The result is a visual celebration not only of the competition itself, but also of the values of equality, empowerment, and unity that underpin the competition.”
