VIENNA, August 26, 2025
As the final Grand Slam trophies of the season are being contested in New York, Austrian tennis fans received exciting news: World No. 8 Alex de Minaur, along with US-Americans Tommy Paul and Frances Tiafoe, will compete at the Erste Bank Open from October 18 to 26 in Vienna. The ATP 500 event, offering €2,736,875 in prize money, is shaping up to be one of the strongest editions yet.
The trio joins an already stellar lineup that includes World No. 3 Alexander Zverev, defending champion Jack Draper (No. 5), Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti (No. 10), Daniil Medvedev (No. 13), and Andrey Rublev (No. 15). With De Minaur’s commitment, the field now boasts four Top-10 players.
De Minaur, known as one of the fastest and fittest players on tour, captured his 10th career ATP title in July at the Washington 500. In a thrilling final, he saved three match points before defeating Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, then consoled his emotional opponent at the net — a gesture that highlighted his reputation as one of the sport’s fairest competitors.
Vienna fans are also set to welcome back Frances Tiafoe, a crowd favorite since his breakout run to the 2021 Erste Bank Open final as a qualifier. The charismatic US-American is renowned for his creativity on court and his emotional bond with spectators, often celebrating points with flamboyant shot-making and spontaneous fan interactions. Tiafoe, who owns titles on hard, clay, and grass, underscored his versatility this year with a maiden French Open quarterfinal appearance, to go along with two previous US Open semifinals.
Meanwhile, Tommy Paul has proven himself a formidable force indoors. Three of his four career titles have come on hardcourt under the roof, a natural fit for his aggressive forehand and willingness to attack the net. His Grand Slam résumé continues to grow, with a semifinal at the 2023 Australian Open, quarterfinals in Melbourne (2025), Wimbledon (2024), and Roland Garros (2025).
“Alex de Minaur, Tommy Paul, and Frances Tiafoe are fantastic additions to what is already an outstanding field,” said Tournament Director Herwig Straka. “They are not only top players but also fan favorites thanks to their exciting styles of play and their connection with audiences worldwide. We are thrilled they will be competing in Vienna this year.”
