World No. 27 Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada has been added to the list of participants for the upcoming European Open in Brussels. The announcement of the Canadian No. 1, who won the ATP 250 indoor hard-court title three years ago, was made on Thursday.

With the arrival of Auger-Aliassime, Belgium’s biggest ATP Tour tournament underlines its ambitions. Already, the European Open has confirmed early commitments from World No. 7 Lorenzo Musetti of Italy, a recent semifinalist at Roland-Garros, as well as national stars Zizou Bergs and David Goffin, ranked 49th and 50th respectively, from Belgium.

“We are particularly pleased to welcome Felix Auger-Aliassime back to the European Open,” said Tournament Director Dick Norman in a statement. “He is a player who has already proven how he can win the tournament as well as how he can inspire the public. We are eager to see how he brings his magic to Brussels this year.”

The 24-year-old Auger-Aliassime won the 2022 European Open title, beating American Sebastian Korda in the final. Last year, he was a quarterfinalist, losing to eventual-champion Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain.

“I am incredibly looking forward to returning to the European Open, this time in Brussels,” Auger-Aliassime said in a statement. “It is a wonderful moment for me to be able to compete in this city for the first time, in an environment that will undoubtedly raise the bar even higher for this special edition. The tournament feels like coming home to me, after my victory in 2022, and I will therefore give everything to show to the fans my best tennis.”

This year, the European Open (from Oct. 12-19) will be hosted for the first time in Palace 12 at Brussels Expo as the tournament celebrates its 10th anniversary following a nine-year run in Antwerp.

“This edition, the tenth, will be a great moment for our tournament and for Belgian tennis fans,” Norman said. “The list of participants looks increasingly impressive, confirming the European Open as a fixture on the international tennis calendar.”
