Germany’s top tennis prospect Justin Engel has been preparing since Thursday for his highly anticipated debut at the BOSS OPEN. The 17-year-old received a main draw wildcard from Tournament Director Edwin Weindorfer – alongside fellow German Jan-Lennard Struff and Italy’s 2013 Stuttgart champion, Fabio Fognini.

Engel recently made headlines with a sensational run to the round of 16 at the ATP 500 tournament in Hamburg, firmly underlining his talent. Just a year ago ranked No. 881 in the world, he has since surged to a career-high ATP Ranking of No. 284.

“Justin Engel is a major promise for the future of German tennis,” said Weindorfer. “By granting him a main draw wildcard, we want to support his rise. We are convinced he will gain valuable experience here in Stuttgart.”

Also already practicing on the grass courts at the Tennis Club Weissenhof is Ben Shelton. On Thursday evening, the U.S. star took a break from tennis to attend the UEFA Nations League semifinal between Spain and France, witnessing a 5-4 thriller that featured nine goals and a dazzling performance from Lamine Yamal and company.

The BOSS OPEN officially kicks off this Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with the first eight matches of the qualifying round. Entry is free for all visitors. One hour before play begins, the gates at Weissenhof will open, welcoming fans with a host of exciting new upgrades.

“We’ve redesigned the entrance area to be more spacious, and for the first time, we’ve installed artificial turf across the entire tournament grounds instead of carpet, which we plan to reuse in future years,” explained Weindorfer. “We’re also pleased to announce that, due to high demand, we’ve expanded our VIP Club.”
