Andrey Rublev advanced to the semi-finals of the bitpanda Hamburg Open. The No. 3 seed of the ATP 500 tournament defeated Luciano Darderi of Italy 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 on Thursday.

Rublev sent down five aces and won 81 per cent of his first-service points to secure victory in one hour and 53 minutes.

“I’m happy to be in the semi-final,” said Rublev. “These were a couple of matches that I needed. I need wins. I needed to struggle, like when you face a tough fight and you don’t really feel the game, but somehow you are winning.

“Today I was able to play much better. It is one extra match that counts for me. I was missing these kinds of matches, because I really need them, and I’m happy to be back in the semi-final.”

Rublev will next play sixth-seeded Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, who fought past Frenchman Alexandre Muller 7-6(4), 6-7(6), 6-3 in two hours and 58 minutes.

In the opening match of the day, Tomas Martin Etcheverry cruised past Jiri Lehecka 7-5, 6-3 to book his place in a first tour-level semi-final of the 2025 season. The 25-year-old Argentine, who slipped out of the Top 50 last month, has climbed to World No. 53 in the ATP Live Rankings and could break back into the Top 50 by claiming his maiden ATP Tour title in Hamburg.

Next up for Etcheverry is Flavio Cobolli, who delivered an impressive performance to defeat Roberto Bautista Agut 7-6(4), 6-0. The Bucharest champion now moves into the semi-finals at the Rothenbaum Tennix Complex, where he’ll aim to continue his strong form in pursuit of another ATP Tour final.
