AUGSBURG, May 23, 2025
World-class tennis returns to the idyllic grounds of TC Augsburg Siebentischwald during Bavaria’s summer holidays with a fresh new name. From August 17 to 23, 2025, the Schwaben Open by Great2Stay will bring elite ATP Challenger Tour action back to Augsburg. With the renowned hotel chain Great2Stay stepping in as Presenting Partner for at least the next three years, the future of the ATP Challenger 50 event is now secure.
New Partnership Ensures Stability and Hospitality
Organizing a tournament of this magnitude is always a significant financial undertaking. Tournament Director Hans Rußwurm expressed his satisfaction at securing a high-caliber partner: “With Great2Stay, which operates 47 hotels across Germany and Austria — including eight in Augsburg alone — we’ve found the perfect match. Hospitality is a major cost factor on the Challenger Tour. This partnership allows us not only to accommodate all players, coaches, and officials comfortably, but also to offer top-quality lodging for traveling tennis fans.”
Rising Stars From Augsburg Stage Shine on ATP Tour
Organizers are closely watching this summer’s ATP events, where former Schwaben Open participants are making headlines. Last year, 17-year-old Diego Dedura, who claimed a record-breaking Challenger main draw win in Augsburg, qualified for the BMW Open in Munich and upset former Top 10 player Denis Shapovalov in a standout ATP-level performance.
Another Augsburg alumnus, Justin Engel, also impressed. The 17-year-old from Nuremberg, who came through qualifying in Augsburg last year, earned a tour-level win in Almaty and added a sensational first-round victory over Jan-Lennard Struff at this year’s Hamburg Open. Despite their rapid ascent, organizers are hopeful to see both promising young talents return to Augsburg this summer.
Tech Meets Tennis: FOXTENN Electronic Line-Calling Debuts
In a major innovation, this year’s edition will feature electronic line-calling powered by Spanish tech company FOXTENN. Spectators can follow the action in real time on large LED screens as players request reviews of close calls — a cutting-edge addition that promises added drama and fairness.
