Who has won the ATP Challenger in Poznan over the years? How many countries have been represented in the tournament’s three-decade history? Which stars have visited the VIP zone? These questions and many more are answered — through the lens of photographers — in the special exhibition “30 Years of Shaping Tennis Champions.” The exhibition was officially opened on Friday morning in the courtyard of Poznan City Hall at Plac Kolegiacki.

The Enea Poznan Open has long been one of the key events on Poznan’s sporting calendar and remains one of the most prestigious tennis tournaments in Poland. With a rich tradition in a sport that enjoys great popularity in the city, the event consistently attracts both rising stars and established names from the global tennis scene. Its venue, the Golęcin Tennis Park, is known as a space made for sport and is deeply loved by Poznan’s residents.

“The city has been a proud partner of the tournament since the very beginning. It’s a great tradition and a source of pride for Poznan,” said Maciej Piekarczyk, Director of the Sports Department at the City of Poznan.

The tournament’s roots date back to 1992, when tennis legend Wojciech Fibak proposed bringing an ATP Challenger event to Poznan. Krzysztof Jordan, Tournament Director of the Enea Poznan Open, reflected on how he never imagined the tournament would grow into one of Poland’s most important tennis events, hosting world-class players and playing a key role in the careers of many Polish athletes.

“I’m proud that we’re building something so meaningful. Of course, it’s always extra special when Polish players win — whether it was Jerzy Janowicz, Hubert Hurkacz, or last year Maks Kasnikowski. And let’s not forget our doubles stars like Łukasz Kubot. We’ve had great champions on court and notable figures in the stands — like the unforgettable visit of Björn Borg,” said Jordan. “This exhibition is a wonderful tribute. I encourage everyone in Poznań to visit the City Hall courtyard and enjoy the photos.”

During the opening, it was noted that over the tournament’s 30-year history, the courts at Olimpia Tennis Park have seen three players who were World No. 1s, 17 who reached the top 10, and many Grand Slam champions and Olympic medalists.

The Enea Poznan Open is also known for going beyond just tennis — and even beyond sport itself. The anniversary exhibition is just one example. Events surrounding the tournament align with the ongoing development of Olimpia Tennis Park as a space for community engagement and education.

“We focus on activating young people, addressing important social issues, and involving residents. That will continue during this anniversary edition. We’re organizing a panel on mental health with Polish Olympic medalists, open-air film screenings on sports topics, a concert by Jakub Józef Orliński and Aleksander Dębicz, the ‘With Class to the Courts’ initiative for children, open pickleball days, and much more,” said Ewelina Sterczewska, manager of Olimpia Tennis Park.

The ATP Challenger 100 Enea Poznan Open will take place from May 15 to 21. The “30 Years of Shaping Tennis Champions” photo exhibition will be on display in the City Hall courtyard from May 19 to June 2, offering visitors a unique visual journey through the rich history of one of Poland’s premier tennis tournaments.
