Friday delivered a wave of excitement for Argentine tennis fans at the Quini 6 Rosario Challenger presented by the Government of Santa Fe, as three home players booked their places in the semifinals at the Jockey Club. Juan Manuel Cerundolo, Camilo Ugo Carabelli and Roman Andres Burruchaga all advanced, setting up a weekend with a strong local presence in the decisive stages of the tournament.

Cerundolo, the 2021 Cordoba Open champion and currently ranked No. 83 in the world, showed no lingering effects from the cramp that troubled him in the previous round. After dropping the first two games, he took control against eighth seed Andrea Pellegrino, securing a straight-sets win. The Argentine, who owns 11 Challenger titles, is still chasing his first clay-court trophy in 16 months, but looked sharp and confident in Rosario. He praised the event’s organization and facilities and now faces a tough test against top seed Ugo Carabelli.

Ugo Carabelli, ranked No. 48, continued his impressive run at the Jockey Club by defeating Hugo Dellien 6-4, 6-2 to extend his winning streak at the venue to eight matches. The two players know each other well, and the Argentine acknowledged that their upcoming semifinal against Cerundolo will likely be decided by fine margins, given their evenly balanced head-to-head history.

Burruchaga, the reigning Buenos Aires Challenger champion, also moved into the last four after a solid performance against Brazil’s Pedro Boscardin Dias. He edged a tight first-set tie-break before closing out the match in straight sets, showing the consistency that has marked his recent rise.

Completing the semifinal lineup is Chun-Hsin Tseng of Chinese Taipei, the tournament’s only Asian player. The former world junior No. 1 continued his dominant run in Rosario, defeating lucky loser Valerio Aboian without dropping a set. Tseng reached his first Challenger semifinal on clay since Prostejov last June, underlining his growing comfort on the surface.
