ROSARIO/STARNBERG, February 4, 2026

A perfect start. That is the best way to describe Camilo Ugo Carabelli’s opening match in the defense of his title at the Quini 6 Rosario Challenger, presented by the Government of the Province of Santa Fe. After dropping the opening game against Guido Justo, the Buenos Aires native won the next twelve games in a row to seal an emphatic 6-1, 6-0 victory in just one hour and one minute.

Justo had been one of the players Ugo Carabelli defeated on his way to the title in the tournament’s first edition, but that encounter had been a very different story, a two-and-a-half-hour battle that ended 7-5, 2-6, 7-5. This time, the 26-year-old took control immediately after recovering the early break and booked his place in the round of 16.

His next opponent will be Facundo Diaz Acosta (ATP No. 301), who closed the day with a straight-sets win over Igor Marcondes. The 2024 Argentina Open champion is looking to rediscover the form that took him into the Top 50 in April of that year.

The final match on the main stadium court featured a hard-fought clash between Francisco Comesana (No. 64) and Nicolás Kicker. After recovering from deficits in the opening set, Kicker had three chances to break serve at 5-5, but the second seed held firm, took the set 7-5, and then wrapped up the contest 6-3. Comesana will next face Brazil’s Pedro Boscardin Dias (No. 268), who came from behind to defeat Marco Cecchinato, a three-time ATP champion and 2018 Roland Garros semifinalist.

Juan Manuel Cerundolo (No. 85), the fourth seed, also made a flawless start at the Jockey Club, defeating Gonzalo Villanueva 6-1, 6-1. The left-hander, one of four ATP champions in the field thanks to his 2021 Cordoba Open title, avoided any complications and set up a round-of-16 clash with Juan Bautista Torres, scheduled for Wednesday evening.

The day’s biggest surprise came in the opening match on Centre Court, courtesy of Valerio Aboian (No. 526). After losing in the final round of qualifying to Marcondes, he entered the draw as a lucky loser following Mariano Navone’s withdrawal due to illness and made the most of the opportunity. In a three-hour battle, Aboian recorded the most significant win of his career by defeating Brazil’s Thiago Seyboth Wild, an ATP champion and former world No. 60. His next opponent will be Spain’s Nikolas Sanchez Izquierdo.

Local hopes remain alive thanks to Luciano Ambrogi (No. 424), who, backed by family and friends, claimed his third straight win without dropping a set after coming through qualifying, this time against Santiago Rodríguez Taverna. He will face Italy’s Andrea Pellegrino (No. 143), the eighth seed, who edged past Juan Estévez in a tight three-set match.

Another Argentine through to the next round is Genaro Olivieri (No. 239), who impressed on Court 2 with a solid win over Felipe Meligeni Alves. The 27-year-old from Bragado, who enjoyed a breakthrough run to the third round of Roland Garros in 2023 after coming through qualifying, guaranteed an Argentine presence in the quarterfinals, as he will now face Román Burruchaga.

Hugo Dellien (No. 149), last year’s finalist, also began his campaign confidently, defeating Franco Agamenone in straight sets. Taiwan’s Chun-Hsin Tseng (No. 122) joined the list of winners as well and will open Wednesday’s round-of-16 action against Facundo Mena.
