Crete Challenger

HERSONISSOS/STARNBERG, January 27, 2026

Crete is set to welcome elite professional tennis once again as the ITC Crete Challenger returns to Lyttos Beach for two consecutive weeks, from 2–8 March and 9–15 March. The ITC Crete Challenger 1 and 2 will transform the island into a focal point of the ATP Challenger Tour, attracting high-level players from around the world and reinforcing Greece’s growing presence on the international tennis calendar at the start of the season.

The tournaments are title-sponsored by Lyttos Beach, whose continued commitment is once again fundamental to the event’s success, alongside the strong and active support of MEDPOOL. Organization is led by International Tennis Coaching (ITC), founded by Apostolos Tsitsipas, which has become a key driving force in the development of professional tennis across Greece and the wider Mediterranean region.

Building on the success of last year’s six tournaments in Crete, as well as additional events in Athens, Greece and Monastir, Tunisia, the 2026 edition begins with even greater momentum. The continued expansion of the ITC Challenger series underlines a clear investment in quality, competitive opportunity and international exposure for players.

A central pillar of the project remains the support of Greek tennis players. The ITC Challenger events offer valuable chances to earn ATP Ranking points, gain match experience and compete on an international stage. In 2025 alone, 17 different Greek players featured across ITC Challenger tournaments, highlighting the event’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of national talent.

Beyond the courts, the ITC Crete Challenger blends high-level sport with tourism promotion and hospitality, boosting the local economy during an ideal period for the start of the competitive season. With world-class facilities, international participation and a strong developmental vision, Crete once again positions itself as a premier destination for professional tennis.
