OEIRAS/STARNBERG, January 25, 2026
Chris Rodesch became the first player to celebrate an international tennis title in Portugal this season after winning the Indoor Oeiras Open, an ATP Challenger event promoted by the Portuguese Tennis Federation and held from January 18 to 25 at the Jamor Tennis Complex in Oeiras.
In Sunday’s final, the 209th-ranked Rodesch completed an almost flawless week by defeating Hungary’s Zsombor Piros, ranked No. 170, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 in a two-hour-and-10-minute battle played in front of a packed crowd on the indoor courts.
Having reached the final without dropping a set, the 24-year-old Luxembourger faced his toughest test against Piros and was forced to dig deep after falling behind 0-2 in the deciding set. The Hungarian, who appeared physically limited and played the final with his left leg taped, struggled to reach several balls but compensated by taking risks, breaking patterns of play and even using an underarm serve to gain the upper hand early in the set.
Rodesch responded with authority. Relying on his powerful serve, he stepped inside the court, sharply reduced his unforced errors and reeled off six consecutive games to seal victory. The triumph marked the second ATP Challenger title of his career, achieved in his third final at that level, and his first since April 2025 in Tallahassee, where he lifted the trophy on clay.

“I played very well in the first tournaments of the year in Australia, but I didn’t get the results I wanted,” said Rodesch, who is coached by former world No. 21 and Estoril Open finalist Gilles Muller. “To be rewarded in the third tournament of the 2026 season, with the level I’m playing, feels really good. Winning my second Challenger title is special.”
A finalist at the ITF World Tennis Tour M25 event in Loulé less than a year ago, Rodesch broke into the Top 150 last summer before an ankle injury disrupted his momentum. As a result, lifting the trophy at Jamor carried “a very, very special meaning” for the Luxembourger, who plans to celebrate with dinner in Lisbon and a visit to the city center.
Rodesch returns to competition next week at the Indoor Oeiras Open 2, once again held at the same venue. There, he is set to face top seed Elmer Moller, one of the most successful players on Portuguese soil in recent years, having won the Braga Open in 2024 and both the Oeiras Open and Maia Open in 2025.
