OEIRAS/STARNBERG, January 17, 2026
Henrique Rocha will headline a large Portuguese contingent at the Indoor Oeiras Open, an ATP Challenger 100 tournament organized by the Portuguese Tennis Federation and held at the Jamor Tennis Complex from January 18 to 25. The event will feature all of Portugal’s top players currently available, with the only absentees being those competing in the main draw of the Australian Open.
For the fourth consecutive year, the tournament signals the start of Portugal’s international tennis season. This time, however, the calendar is even more attractive, as the two ATP Challenger events will be followed by two newly added WTA 125 tournaments in the weeks ahead, further enhancing the appeal of the indoor courts at Jamor.
Fresh from Melbourne, where he reached the second round of Australian Open qualifying, the 21-year-old Rocha enters the draw as Portugal’s highest-ranked player at No. 158 in the ATP rankings. He is also among the seeded players, in a field led by Britain’s Billy Harris (No. 121) and Italy’s Francesco Passaro (No. 140).
Already a two-time Challenger champion, Rocha claimed his most recent title late last season in Matsuyama, Japan. He is now aiming to lift his first Challenger trophy on home soil, returning to what he describes as his “second home,” as he is part of the Portuguese Tennis Federation’s High Performance Center.
Joining him with direct entry is training partner Frederico Silva (No. 262). The 30-year-old from Caldas da Rainha has reached four Challenger finals in his career and continues his pursuit of a maiden title at this level.
Tiago Pereira (No. 264), Gastao Elias (No. 364)—the most decorated Portuguese player on the ATP Challenger Tour with 10 titles and 23 finals—and newly crowned national champion Tiago Torres (No. 762) have all received wild cards into the main draw, bringing the number of confirmed Portuguese players to five.
As is customary, several members of the international field are no strangers to Challenger finals in Portugal. Leandro Riedi lifted the trophy at this very venue in 2025, Francesco Passaro was runner-up at the 2024 Maia Open, Vilius Gaubas enjoyed a standout season last year with a title in Lisbon and a final in Braga, Zsombor Piros won the 2023 Oeiras Open on clay and reached the final of Indoor Oeiras Open 2 in 2025, while August Holmgren claimed the Eupago Porto Open title two years ago.
The first Indoor Oeiras Open runs from January 18 to 25, with the second tournament beginning immediately afterward and continuing until February 1. The two WTA 125 events are scheduled to take place from February 8 to 22, completing an intensive and high-profile start to the tennis season in Portugal.
