Francisca Jorge was crowned Portugal’s national tennis champion for the ninth consecutive time, while Tiago Torres celebrated his first senior national title, as the 101st edition of the Campeonato Nacional Absoluto / Taça Guilherme Pinto Basto came to a close this Sunday at the Jamor Tennis Complex in Oeiras. The final day also saw Matilde Novais and Bruno Ouvidor lift the mixed doubles trophy.

In the women’s singles final, Francisca Jorge (25, WTA No. 214) once again got the better of her younger sister Matilde Jorge (21, WTA No. 273), winning 6–3, 6–4 in their sixth all-sister final, all played over the last seven years. With this victory, the player from Guimaraes extended her dominance of Portugal’s most prestigious tennis event, which she has now won every year since 2017.

The triumph allows Francisca Jorge to equal the record of nine consecutive titles previously held by Sofia Prazeres (1990–1998). Only Leonor Peralta, with a total of 13 titles, remains ahead in the all-time standings.

“I’m extremely happy—another trophy to take home,” said Jorge after sealing her 35th consecutive win in the competition. “I played at a good level throughout the week, starting from the first match, and that showed again in the final.” Reflecting on the match, she added: “The sets were long and tough, but I was more determined on the important points, and that made the difference.” She already has her sights set on a potential tenth title next year.

The men’s final guaranteed a new champion, and it was Tiago Torres who rose to the occasion. The 23-year-old from Lisbon, ranked World No. 785 after starting the season outside the top 1400, defeated Francisco Rocha (No. 779) 6–3, 6–3. Rocha was contesting his second final at Jamor, having been runner-up in 2022.

Both finalists have collegiate backgrounds in the United States and had stunned the tournament favorites in the semifinals. Torres capped a remarkable week by overcoming early nerves and a double-break deficit in the final to impose his game and secure the title.

“There are so many emotions,” said Torres. “Reaching a national final is special—winning it is incredible. If you had told me at the start of the week that I’d be champion, I wouldn’t have believed it. This really is the cherry on top of the cake.”

Earlier in the week, Torres had eliminated former Top 100 player Gastao Elias, the highest-ranked competitor in the draw, underlining the significance of his breakthrough. His victory makes him the fourth consecutive first-time men’s champion at the event.

The final day also crowned Matilde Novais and Bruno Ouvidor as mixed doubles champions. The duo completed a flawless run with a 6–3, 6–4 victory over Teresa Franco Dias and record-holder Jose Ricardo Nunes, securing their fourth straight win of the week to close out a memorable championship at Jamor.
