Argentina’s Luisina Giovannini faces former World No. 35 Polona Hercog of Slovenia in Sunday’s match of the WTA 125 Quito Copa Banco Guayaquil. The showdown will take place at the Quito Tenis & Golf Club, with free admission for all spectators.
Saturday’s first semifinal featured an all-European clash, where current World No. 672 Hercog defeated France’s Leolia Jeanjean 6–2, 6–2, securing her place in the final.

“There’s definitely no better way to finish a tournament than by reaching the final. Playing the last match means you performed well all week. I’m proud of the effort and the way I’ve played so far, and I’m looking forward to enjoying tomorrow,” Hercog said after her straight-sets victory.
Hercog has endured a challenging few months following wrist surgery earlier this year, making this deep run especially meaningful. “After undergoing wrist surgery at the end of March and early April, I’m very happy to be able to compete in finals at this level again. We’ll see what comes next, but for now I just want to enjoy the moment.”
The 34-year-old brings an impressive résumé, with three WTA titles and 19 ITF Pro Circuit crowns, and she reached her career-high ranking of No. 35 back in 2011.
Her opponent will be 19-year-old Luisina Giovannini, born in Coronel Moldes in the province of Córdoba, who defeated Greece’s Despina Papamichail 6–4, 6–2.

“I knew it was going to be a tough match. Despina fights until the last point, she’s a great competitor. I was also nervous; it was my first semifinal at a WTA 125. I’m happy I managed to come through,” said Giovannini, who trains at Alejandro Cerúndolo’s academy and is accompanied in Quito by coach Viu Franco.
“This week has been the best of my career, so I’m thrilled and ready to give everything I have left this year in the final,” added the World No. 281, who began the season ranked No. 480 and will rise to No. 226 after reaching the final.
Hercog and Giovannini will meet for the first time.
