ITF Press Release, November 25, 2025

Italy have consolidated their position at the top of the Davis Cup Nations Rankings after being crowned world champions for the third consecutive year by defeating Spain 2-0 in the Davis Cup Final in Bologna on Sunday.

The Italians rose to No. 1 following their victory against Australia in the 2023 final, which saw them win the Davis Cup for a second time – and for the first time since 1976. They have remained in top spot since then, adding a third title by defeating Netherlands last year and a fourth title after victory against Spain in front of a sell-out crowd inside SuperTennis Arena in the Bologna Fiere on Sunday.

Italy are one of 10 nations to have held the No. 1 ranking since the Davis Cup Nations Rankings were introduced in December 2001 – alongside Argentina, Australia, Canada, Croatia, Czechia, France, Great Britain, Russia and Spain.

Spain’s runner-up finish this year sees them climb seven places from No. 10 to No. 3 – the team’s highest ranking in two years. Germany, whom Spain defeated in a dramatic semifinal tie on Saturday, have risen one place to No. 2 in the rankings, having now reached the semifinals for two consecutive years.

Australia dropped two places to No. 4 in the latest rankings, while Belgium moved up six places from No. 11 to No. 5 following their semifinal finish in Bologna. The Belgians were last ranked inside the Top 5 back in March 2022.

The Davis Cup Nations Rankings are officially published after each round of Davis Cup ties and are based on results over a four-year period, with recent performances weighted more heavily.
