VIENNA/STARNBERG, October 21, 2025
Filip Misolic has reached the second round of the Erste Bank Open for the first time in his career. The 24-year-old Austrian delighted the home crowd at the ATP 500 tournament in Vienna, defeating Argentina’s Camilo Ugo Carabelli 7-5, 7-6(6) on Tuesday in front of an electric audience. With the victory, Misolic advances to the round of 16, where he will face third seed Alex de Minaur of Australia on Wednesday at the Wiener Stadthalle.
Misolic made a flying start in his opening match, racing to a 4-0 lead after just 15 minutes thanks to two early breaks. However, world No. 50 Ugo Carabelli fought back, leveling the set at 4-4. The Austrian had to save break points at both 4-4 and 5-5 before converting his first set point at 6-5 to take the opener. The second set went on serve, leading to a tense tiebreak filled with spectacular rallies. After two hours and 16 minutes, Misolic sealed victory on his second match point — and with it, his first-ever win at his home tournament.

“This one ranks very high for me — it’s an incredible feeling to experience this,” Misolic said after the match. “I was very nervous at the start. At 4-0, I thought, ‘It can’t be this easy,’ and of course it got more complicated. But the energy from the crowd really carried me through. I felt like I could have played another ten sets! Overall, I think I played a solid match.”
Next up for Misolic is World No. 7 Alex de Minaur, who on Monday defeated Jurij Rodionov in his first-round match. “It’s going to be a tough one, but it’s great to face a Top 10 player on the main court here in Vienna. I expect long rallies, and I’ll have to be a bit more aggressive,” Misolic said, already looking ahead to the challenge.
By reaching the second round, Misolic is set to break into the Top 90 of the ATP Rankings for the first time, currently sitting at No. 86 in the live standings. “Finishing the year inside the Top 100 would be huge — it’s something every player keeps in mind. It’s also important for getting directly into the Australian Open main draw. With the points I earned today, I’m quite confident I’ll be there,” the Styrian concluded with a smile.
