CURITIBA/STARNBERG, October 18, 2025
Pedro Boscardin’s dream run at the Copa Internacional de Tenis de Curitiba continues. After taking out top 100 player Thiago Tirante of Argentina and beating Bolivian Juan Prado Angelo in the quarterfinals, the Brazilian stunned one of the tournament favorites, Roman Burruchaga of Argentina, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4, in Saturday’s semifinal. Burruchaga, ranked No. 131 in the world and the tournament’s fifth seed, came in riding an eight-match winning streak after his recent title in Buenos Aires.
This is Boscardin’s third career ATP Challenger final – after reaching Lima in 2023 and a Challenger 80 event in 2022 – and he’ll be aiming for his maiden title and 75 ATP Ranking points. The tournament offers a total prize purse of $200,000.
“I’ve been working on the mental side with a psychologist and with João (Zwetsch), and it’s made a huge difference,” Boscardin said. “At this level, everyone plays well, but mental strength is what separates the best. I’ve been mentally strong this week. The crowd gives me a lot of energy, but it’s also important to know when to use it and when to focus on myself — and I’ve managed to do that. Let’s keep it going tomorrow and fight for the title.”
In the first semifinal, Paraguayan Adolfo Daniel Vallejo ended Joao Schiessl’s impressive run to book his place in the final. Vallejo, ranked No. 253, rallied from 1-4 down in the first set to win 6-4, 6-4. The 21-year-old has been on a hot streak, defeating top seed Emilio Nava from the United States as well as Chileans Matias Soto and Thomas Barrios Vera and now Schiessl.

This will be Vallejo’s fifth career Challenger final and his second of the season. He won the Challenger 75 in Sao Leopoldo in 2023.
“Congrats to João — he’s my age and had an excellent week,” Vallejo said. “I was nervous today, not playing as freely as I wanted, but I kept fighting and I’m happy to be in the final. It’s been a tough few months, but my team has helped me a lot. I hope to play well tomorrow and lift the trophy.”
Soto and Zeballos Claim Doubles Title
In the doubles final, Matias Soto became the first two-time champion of the Copa Internacional de Tenis de Curitiba. This year, partnering with Bolivia’s Federico Zeballos, he lifted the trophy once again, defeating favorites Gonzalo Escobar of Ecuador and Mexican Miguel Reyes-Varela 6-4, 7-5.
Soto and Zeballos have now played two tournaments together — and won both. The champions split $14,200 in prize money and earned 75 ATP Doubles Ranking points, while the runners-up take home $8,330 and 44 points.
“It’s very special to win here again,” Soto said. “I had to defend the title, not just for the points, but because I really enjoy playing in these conditions. The organization always makes this tournament feel warm and welcoming. I’m leaving Curitiba with great feelings.”
Zeballos added, “Thanks to the club, the organization, the fans, and my partner. It’s been incredible to play together and win again. I hope we can keep this partnership going.”
