CURITIBA/STARNBERG, October 17, 2025
The crowd at the Copa Internacional de Tenis had plenty to celebrate on Friday as home favorite Joao Eduardo Schiessl delivered another impressive performance at the ATP Challenger Tour 75 clay-court event in Curitiba.
Playing on a packed center court at the Graciosa Country Club, the 21-year-old from Parana defeated fellow Brazilian Daniel Dutra da Silva 6-2, 6-3 to secure his first career Challenger semifinal. With this result, Schiessl also moves closer to breaking into the Top 400 for the first time.

“Yesterday was already the best result of my career — and today, I did it again,” Schiessl said with a smile. “I had never won a match in a Challenger main draw before this week, and here I’ve won three. It’s incredibly rewarding to see all the hard work paying off. It’s also special for everyone who supports me year-round to be here and see this moment. This is a win for them too.”
Schiessl will now face Paraguayan Adolfo Daniel Vallejo, a former junior world No. 1 who is also enjoying a strong week in Curitiba. Vallejo defeated sixth seed Tomas Barrios Vera 6-3, 6-7(2), 6-3 to book his place in the semifinals.
Doubles final set
In doubles, there will be no Brazilian representatives in the final. The last remaining duo, Gustavo Heide and Bruno Oliveira, fell 6–1, 7–6(3) to third seeds Matias Soto of Chile and Bolivian Federico Zeballos. Soto and Zeballos will now face top seeds Gonzalo Escobar from Ecuador and Miguel Reyes Varela of Mexico, who defeated the all-Bolivian duo of Boris Arias and Muriel Dellien in their semifinal.
The doubles final will take place after the singles semifinals on Saturday.
